Gains Brochure - When a Person with a Mental or Co-Occurring Disability is Arrested: How to Help
This brochure was produced by a group of non-profit
service providers, judges, attorneys and other concerned
Juneau citizens to deal with the
issue of the criminalization of persons with mental illness
or co-occurring disorders. Their goals:
- Prevent unnecessary interactions with law enforcement or corrections
- Divert as many people with serious mental illnesses (SMI) or co-occurring disorders into treatment as possible.
- Ensure that people with SMI who are incarcerated receive decent and humane treatment.
- Facilitate successful community reintegration and prevent recidivism.
