GHS Outpatient Addiction Services
The GHS Outpatient Addiction Services (OAS) offers substance abuse services designed to meet the needs of each individual client. Most of our OAS clients are persons with behavioral health issues, including addictions, who have become involved in the criminal justice system.
OAS Approach and Services
OAS focuses on the whole person, addressing multiple issues surrounding substance abuse. Following a screening and assessment process, each client works with his or her counselor to develop a treatment plan designed to meet the individual at his or her own level of readiness.
Support services available to clients include White Bison, Wellbriety, Talking Circle, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Anger Management, and Victim Impact classes. The OAS program also provides Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) services for Juneau Therapeutic Court referrals and other outpatient clients. We also offer sober recreation and social activities, including a new music program beginning in the summer of 2006.
The OAS program staff strives to provide treatment that is respectful, gender and culture sensitive, strength-based, and responsive to the special needs of clients with mental health diagnosis, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD).
OAS Level of Services
GHS OAS offers screening, assessment, case management, and treatment services at a series of levels created to meet the needs to each individual client. These levels range from Early Intervention for clients who are at risk of developing an addiction, to Intensive Outpatient Services, which provides a more intensive structure.
The duration of treatment at all levels varies depending on the seriousness of a person’s addiction and his or her response to treatment.
